This course is jointly organized by the International Center of High Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), through the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza (IAMZ), and by the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), through the Instituto de Acuicultura Torre de la Sal (IATS). The course will be held at the IATS in Castellón, with recognized faculty from research centers, universities and private companies from various countries. The course will last 1 week and will be developed, in the morning and afternoon. The objective of the course is to provide aquaculture professionals with a current vision of the scientific bases and the advances achieved in the reproduction of fish and to demonstrate in apractical way their application to the management of broodstock. The course program reviews the most recent advances in the study of neuro-endocrine and hormonal mechanisms of the brain-pituitary-gonad axis involved in fish reproduction, including control of sex, puberty and reproductive cycle, as well as the effects of captivity , stress and nutrition of breeders on the quality of eggs and larvae. The program also will present the knowledge acquired in relation to the environmental control of reproduction, behavioral patterns related to reproduction as well as the influence of genetics and epigenetics on
cultured species. In addition, the environmental, hormonal, molecular and genetic tools that are currently available to obtain an effective control of reproductive processes, including the cryopreservation of gametes, will be presented.
